Endless Plane in the Form of a Column, 1974/1977

Endless Plane in the Form of a Column, 1974/1977

Max Bill (1908–1994)

About the artwork

With his “Endless Plane”, Max Bill created a work that exists in several variations. As is usual for concrete art, this sculpture is devoid of any symbolism. Instead, it is based on a mathematical and geometric concept. The spear-like, seemingly endless column turns precisely 90 degrees between the base and the tip. The way the surroundings are mirrored in its sleek stainless-steel surface lends the sculpture a delicate, almost dematerialised appearance.
